About No Obligation

No Obligation is a 5 piece female fronted rock band based in Swansea, South Wales. The band consists of Alex Taylor (Lead vocals) Deano Jeffery (Lead/rhythm guitar), Greg Harper (Lead/rhythm guitar), Ollie Barrett (Bass) and Carl 'Crambo' Grainger (Drums). The band existed as an acoustic side project in its earlier days.

The sound combines elements of acoustic and rock with a variety of influences ranging from acts such as Alanis Morissette, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Def Leppard and the Cranberries to modern day acts such as Lady GaGa and the Kings of Leon.

Co-founding member Alex Taylor was invited to work on DJ Darren Tates 'DT8 Project' album 'Perfect World' where under the name of 'Alexta' she sings on hit track 'Hold me til the end' and several other tracks on the album including 'Falling' where she duets with Gavin Rossdale of Bush. Songs from the album featuring Alex's voice have been aired on major radio stations and played at clubs across the UK and Europe.

Guitarist, songwriter and co-founding member Deano Jeffery has played all over the UK in previous projects which included an appearance at Guilfest where he shared the stage with acts such as Blondie, Katie Melua, the Stranglers, and the Levellers.

No Obligation have shared the stage with and worked with a range of artists such as The Automatic, The Futureheads, and Lucy Diamond .

2010 saw No Obligation become a 5 piece band for the first time with the addition of Ollie Barrett as the new bassist. Previous bassist Greg Harper has now switched roles to become No Obligations second guitarist.

The band is now gigging with the new line up and writing in preparation to record.

How the band met - by Deano

I met our singer Alex whilst working together at a call centre and we formed the band, coming up with the name 'No Obligation' as it was part of our sales script. Her voice is so unique and soulful I was really exited to start writing songs with her. 'Two Worlds Apart' and 'Black Widow' are the first songs we ever wrote together.

Original drummer Scott Mackay quit due to other commitments and I stumbled across Crambo while seeing him do some very technical looking 'air drumming' to Iron Maiden at a local rock bar. He looked like he knew what he was doing so hoping he could play real drums I asked him to come and jam with us..turns out he was a drummer and he's rather good!! He comes up with some brilliant ideas when we bring songs to him in writing sessions.

In 2007 we had a very difficult time as we had to replace original bassist Danielle Williams. This was a dark time for us but we couldn't carry on as we were and the decision was made. We started to write whilst looking for a new bass player.

I was teaching at a local music shop a couple of months later and one of the guitar tutors, Greg Harper said he'd heard we were looking for a bassist and that he'd like to play for us. We had a jam and it instantly worked. It was like he'd been with us for years and I have formed a very strong song writing partnership with him.

Greg has always been a guitarist more than a bassist and as time has gone on we have felt that we wanted to thicken our sound. In late 2010 Greg made the switch from bass to guitar and we recruited new bassist Ollie Barrett.

I worked with Ollie in a previous band so he was first choice for a new bassist. Just like this Greg he has instantly slotted into the band and it feels like we have been a five piece for a long time.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and we look forward to seeing you at one of our shows
